IRISH CUP WEEKEND AT TIBBETTS
Lansdowne Bhoys 3-1 NY Shamrocks
Lansdowne retained the Irish cup for a 4th successive year at Tibbetts park this past Saturday.
Comming of Wednesday’s victory in the Lamar Hunt US open cup and ahead of this Wednesday’s game away at North Carolina FC coach Friel rotated his starting 11.
Both teams started well but struggled to create any clear cut chances , with both defenses and keepers doing a job, then on 30 minutes Janis Loebe picked up a McCann pass and riffled home from 25 yards into the top left corner to put Lansdowne 1 up.
Both teams kept trying to play football which was hampered by a whistle friendly ref and wet conditions, Then on 40 minutes after a failed clearance in the Bhoys 6 yard box, Shamrocks were quickest to the ball and blasted into the net to leave it all square at halftime.
The second have was a battle from start to finish with both defences again not giving an inch, and Lansdowne keeper Kabo in top form, it took all the way to 80 minutes for the Bhoys to get their 2nd goal when Gurissay ran on to an Oakley pass and blasted past the keeper at his near post, Lansdowne lifted their game after a good 20 minute period by the Shamrocks and it wasn’t long till they were three up with more good play by Oakley and assisted by zargas Gurissay got in again to make it 3-1 with a strike from 8 yards.
Very competitive game and coach Friel was happy to get through it with no injuries, great team effort with McCann, Kabo and Oakley in terrific form for the Bhoys.

In the opener it was honors shared in a hard competitive game, the Bhoys went 2 up with goals from Arten Baja and Mike Fernandez, Shamrocks had a man sent off and with in 30 minutes the Bhoys should have wrapped it up but for some poor finishing, all credit to the Shamrocks they battled hard and got one back before the half after a poor clearance from the Bhoys
The second half remaind tight and each team pressed for a goal, it was Shamrocks who got the equalizer mid way through the 2nd half, and had chances to win the game but in the end a draw was a fair result, Coach kenny has one game left to fine tune his team ahead of the league playoffs

A Damian Mescell goal seperated the two sides in a hard fought contest as the Bhoys kept up their winning league form, and continue to aim for a top 3 finish.
